VIGOR Volunteer Program
The New Orleans EMS VIGOR program allows potential new employees and individuals to work hand-in-hand on an ambulance with our crews.
All VIGORS must complete a VIGOR orientation class and possess the following credentials and certifications:
Current provisional or permanent National Registry Certification as an EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic;
LA State Bureau of EMS Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic License &
Current CPR card
VIGORs are required to ride along on at least one 12 hour shift every two months to remain an active VIGOR. When riding along with EMS, VIGORs are expected to follow all EMS policy and procedures. VIGORs are allowed to assist in supervised patient care. They are also able to attend all in house training for free.
The VIGOR orientation class is held several times each year. All potential VIGORs must complete the on-line VIGOR Information Request Form to be put in a database to receive information about the next next VIGOR orientation class. You will receive an email when the next class is scheduled. Classes are held two to three times a year based on interest in the program.
