Behavioral Health Resources

The New Orleans Health Department does not provide direct behavioral health services, such as mental health counseling or substance abuse treatment. Instead, the Health Department plays a central role in bringing together direct service providers. We work to build bridges between clinics and hospitals so that individuals who need direct services are able to access them.

Behavioral Health Crisis Resources

If you or someone you know is in a behavioral health crisis, call the Metropolitan Crisis Response Team at (504) 826-2675.

This team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Orleans, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes.

Someone may be having a behavioral health crisis when they are:

  • in danger of hurting themselves or others
  • in need of emergency housing
  • having an alcohol or drug crisis
  • a person with mental illness feeling overwhelmed or unstable

For individuals in crisis in Jefferson Parish, call (504) 832-5123.
