Traffic Advisory: Temporary Detour on Mirabeau Avenue Near London Canal for Water Line Repair

Mirabeau Graphic

NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans contractor Hard Rock Construction LLC will temporarily close the westbound lane of Mirabeau Avenue between Allen Street and Pratt Drive to repair water lines as part of the Filmore South Group A project. The westbound lane will be reopened to traffic at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, for the weekend and then the closure will resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Weather permitting, this work will be complete by close of business on Friday, Jan. 23, and the westbound lane will be reopened to traffic.

Please be advised that only the westbound portion of Mirabeau Avenue, crossing the London Avenue Canal, will be closed while repairs are made. Traffic will be detoured onto Paris Avenue to cross the London Avenue Canal at Filmore Avenue and then onto to St. Anthony Avenue. Public safety is our priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near the construction site.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $4.4 million Filmore South Group A project, which was designed by Volkert Inc. and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction LLC. The scope of work for the project varies by block and includes the following types of work:

  • Patch Mill/Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks
  • Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace it with new smooth concrete pavement
  • Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace it with new smooth pavement
  • Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way

The project is currently more than 40 percent complete and anticipated to be wrapped up in summer 2021.
