Traffic Advisory: St. Charles Avenue (Louisiana Avenue – Calliope Street)

NEW ORLEANS—On Friday, Feb. 3, beginning at 7:30 a.m., the City of New Orleans construction contractor, Boh Bros. Construction, LLC, will begin a lane closure on the eastbound side of St. Charles Avenue from St. Mary Street to Erato Street and a westbound lane closure from Polymnia Street to Second Street in order to safely complete work in those areas.  All work between Louisiana Avenue and Calliope Street will be completed by February 10, and crews will be fully demobilized by February 14.

NEW ORLEANS —Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, American Can residents, Councilmember Guidry and Audubon Communities, the owner of the American Can Apartments, announced the successful resolution of negotiations that extend affordable housing at the American Can Apartments through October and provides additional support services for residents.

City Issues Property Tax Reminders

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued two important property tax reminders. Today, January 31, 2017, is the payment deadline for 2017 property taxes. Residents received their initial property tax bill reminders in mid-December. Additionally, in the December 2016 election, voters in Orleans Parish approved property tax millages for fire protection and drainage and on Thursday, January 26, 2017, the New Orleans City Council adopted the millage ordinances.

City Partners with Chevron to Fund Youth Violence Prevention Efforts

NEW ORLEANS—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, in partnership with Chevron, announced two grant recipients through NOLA FOR LIFE’s Connecting Students to Supports program. Launched in December 2016, the Connecting Students to Supports program funds non-profit organizations that provide services to high school students who are at risk of involvement in violence.

NEW ORLEANS - Tomorrow, Welcome Table New Orleans Central City Circle participants will host the Historical Marker Celebration and Dedication honoring the life and legacy of civil rights activist Ernest J. Wright. During this event, participants will unveil a permanent history marker in recognition of Wright’s work.
