City Reminds Residents of Road Closures Following Severe Weather

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans issued reminders of road closures and downed power lines following Thursday afternoon’s severe weather. The National Weather Service has confirmed that tornadic activity caused some of the damage. Public safety is our top priority, and residents are advised to be aware of and cautious around downed power lines and other debris.

City Reminds Residents of Precautions Following Severe Weather

NEW ORLEANS -- Between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., a strong storm moved through New Orleans bringing strong, flood-producing rain and high winds. There are also reports of wind damage including missing shingles and downed power lines. As a result, there are areas with closed streets, primarily in the Treme and 7th Ward area. NOEMS transported  two patients with minor injuries related to the house collapses.

City to Host Ninth STRIVE NOLA Graduation

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, the City of New Orleans will host the ninth STRIVE New Orleans (STRIVE NOLA) graduation ceremony. Launched in March 2015, STRIVE NOLA seeks to connect disadvantaged jobseekers to employment opportunities by providing workforce case management, foundational skills training and supportive services.

Heat Advisory Issued for New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS— The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in the New Orleans area for today, Thursday, August 4, 2016, until 7 p.m. The weather forecast indicates that high humidity levels will result in heat index values of 108 to 112 degrees in New Orleans, and these hot temperatures can become life-threatening if the proper precautions are not taken.

Mayor Landrieu Allocates $500K in Additional Funding for Zika Virus Prevention

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined local officials to remind residents of the precautions they should take to protect themselves and their homes from mosquitos, as well as provide an update on the City of New Orleans’ outreach activities and overall preparedness in the event of a Zika virus occurrence. At this time, there are no locally transmitted cases of the Zika virus in New Orleans or Louisiana.

NEW ORLEANS — Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join local and state officials to remind residents of the precautions they should take to protect themselves and their homes from mosquitos, as well as provide an update on the City of New Orleans’ outreach activities and overall preparedness in the event of an occurrence of the Zika virus.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced that the Vieux Carré Commission (VCC) received a Commission Excellence Award in the category of Best Practices for its Design Guidelines for the Vieux Carré Historic District from the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC).

Season Twelve of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, Saturday, July 30, 2016, the City of New Orleans along with the New Orleans Pelicans, RPM Pizza, MetroPCS and PlayNOLA will continue the twelfth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational activity, jobs and opportunities in crime hot spots for males over 16 years old through basketball, mentorship and support.

City Receives $800K Grant to Provide Housing, Mental Health Services to New Orleans Homeless Population

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the New Orleans Health Department and the Office of Community Development in partnership with UNITY of Greater New Orleans, the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) and Metropolitan Human Services District (MHSD) announced that the City of New Orleans has received an $800,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide housing and mental health services to the city’s homeless population.
