NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the 2015 Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon slated for Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. The event is expected to draw more than 16,000 runners to the city. A detailed description and map of the race’s route is included below. Race participants that are driving to the race are encouraged to park in downtown long-term lots and carpool whenever possible.

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans announced that City Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Additionally, all New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) recreation centers, pools and tennis centers will be closed. Emergency personnel will operate as normal and will not be affected by this closure. City Hall and all NORDC facilities will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Monday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, members of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Planning Commission and special guests will host a special event in commemoration of the legacy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The City’s annual MLK holiday celebration will begin with the opening program at City Hall will be followed by the 29th Annual Memorial MLK March.

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans is reminding all current permit holders to renew their permits for the selling of art on Jackson Square in the French Quarter before the approaching statutory deadline in less than three weeks. Following the permit renewal process, the City announced it will manage a new, more efficient lottery system to select new Artist A permit holders for 2015.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy issued a filming notice to New Orleans residents in the Bywater. On Wednesday, Jan. 14 and Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, a production company will film exterior scenes at the intersection of Chartres St. and Piety St. between the hours of 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. nightly. The sequence being filmed involves special effects containing a small fireworks display.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Planning Commission announced the schedule of events for the City’s 29th annual MLK holiday celebration. This year's official week-long events begin on Tuesday, January 13 and will include a wreath laying ceremony, a jazz concert, a service project, and a memorial service. This year's theme, “Where Do We Go From Here?" is based on Dr. King's book, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?

NEW ORLEANS, LA—TOMORROW, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison will announce the start of NOPD Recruit Class #172. The recruits will undergo 26 weeks of training, including 886.5 hours of POST certified training. Class #171, the current recruit class in training, is scheduled to graduate 29 recruits in March.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Over 150 volunteers joined Mayor Mitch Landrieu along with City officials, local community organizations, and residents for the ninth NOLA FOR LIFE Day on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. The event, a component of the Mayor’s comprehensive murder reduction strategy, NOLA FOR LIFE , was held at Sampson Playground and motivated residents to join efforts geared towards revitalizing the Florida Desire neighborhood.
