NEW ORLEANS, LA—On Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 5 pm the New Orleans Recreation and Development Commission (NORDC) will join with the American Red Cross – Southeast Louisiana Chapter to host Adult Swim Night at Stallings Gentilly Pool. This event will feature water aerobics and free giveaways.
In December of 2010, Mayor Landrieu announced that the City entered into an agreement with the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter to fund a year-round swimming lesson and lifeguard training program, under the direction of NORDC.
“This Adult Swim Night is a tremendous opportunity for adult New Orleanians to be involved in a healthy and fun event,” said Vic Richard, CEO of NORDC. “We also want to remind adults in New Orleans that it is never too late to learn how to swim. We provide an amazing amount of resources that support every neighborhood and demographic in our city and we encourage folks to take advantage of them all.”
The City currently operates 12 pools and approximately 7,700 youth have been served by swimming lessons and programming in 2012, which marks an increase from last year’s programs that served approximately 6,700 youth.
