NEW ORLEANS, LA– Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the Susan B. Komen Race for The Cure, to be held on Saturday morning, October 20, 2012, and expected to draw thousands of runners and walkers to City Park.
Racers are encouraged to carpool and arrive early, as parking is limited. Parking is also available on a first-come, first-served basis at two locations in City Park. The first option in the Park is in the grass field on Zachary Taylor Drive, just off Marconi Drive, next to City Park’s dog park. The second location is next to the “green lawn” between Victory Avenue and Dreyfous Drive, across from Storyland.
Parking is available along Marconi Drive and City Park Avenue as well, and in the surrounding neighborhoods. Parking is NOT allowed on the neutral ground on Marconi Drive.
“We want to remind people to be sure to park in legal spaces, avoiding unnecessary headaches for themselves,” said Deputy Mayor Cedric Grant. “We encourage people to be mindful of residents in the surrounding neighborhoods, and to be careful not to block driveways or park in other illegal spaces.”
Grant added, “There are signs posted on Marconi Drive by City Park to warn drivers not to park on the neutral ground. It is the City’s intention to make every effort to keep people informed of where they can and cannot park, so they can enjoy all the great events New Orleans has to offer and not have their experience marred by receiving a parking ticket.”
