NEW ORLEANS, LA--Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu presented the proposed operating and capital budgets for 2013.
"This is a balanced budget that protects public safety," said Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
He continued, “We will live within our budget and that means that many departments will see cuts to make that happen. This 2013 budget, like 2012, is going to be a challenge. In 2013, we must again cut smart, reorganize, and invest. We are on the right path with better results, less spending, and leaner, more entrepreneurial government. But we must continue to change because business as usual is simply fiscally unsustainable. At the end of the day, the 2013 budget will be balanced and will fund the public’s top priorities. In the coming weeks, every department, board, commission or other governmental entity funded by the City of New Orleans will participate in a robust series of public hearings in the City Council chamber. I look forward to working with the City Council and hearing from citizens so that we can present a balanced budget that keeps our city moving forward."
