Media Advisory: Mayor Landrieu, City and State officials, and Fema to reopen newly renovated Norwood Thompson Playground

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m., Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City and State Officials, and FEMA will reopen the newly renovated Norwood Thompson Playground at 7200 Forshey Street in Gert Town.  This project restored the existing park which was damaged during Hurricane Katrina. Funding for this $848,000 redevelopment came from FEMA recovery dollars, Disaster Community Development Block Grant (D-CDBG) funding, and City Bond funds.

Norwood Thompson Playground’s restoration includes a new concession building, concrete entryway, sidewalks, fencing for playground area, benches and picnic tables. Repairs were made to the high mast lighting, restrooms, and water fountains. The baseball field and basketball court were also refurbished.
