NEW ORLEANS, LA – Southwest Airlines continues to expand its air service offerings at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport with the announcement of new service to Washington’s Regan National Airport (DCA). In this most recent announcement, Southwest will begin service to DCA beginning August 10, 2014. The new twice daily service will depart New Orleans at 7:40 a.m. and 2:55 p.m. and arrive in Washington at 11:05 a.m. and 6:25 p.m. respectively. The return flights will leave our nation’s capital at 9:00 a.m. and 6:05 p.m.; arriving in New Orleans at 12:05 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
Earlier this year, Southwest Airlines, the volume leader at Armstrong International Airport, secured several slots at Washington’s Regan National Airport. DCA is one of the USA's few capacity controlled airports where takeoff and landing rights are restricted by "slot controls." US Airways currently serves DCA from New Orleans
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, “This announcement by Southwest is yet another example of the growing demand for service in the New Orleans region as we continue to build a world-class airport.”
“This service to Washington National by Southwest will offer our community another option in reaching our nation’s capital, whether for business or pleasure,” said New Orleans Aviation Board Chairwoman Cheryl Teamer.
Iftikhar Ahmad, Director of Aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, stated “Southwest will provide competition in the DCA market and give our community an increased level of service to Washington D.C.”
