NOPD Seeks Input for Community Policing Plans/ New Orleans Geaux Blue Day

During the month of September, the NOPD will be collecting input from citizens regarding updates to district Community Policing Plans.

Further, please show your support for our officers in blue on New Orleans Geaux Blue Day on September 13th. We encourage all residents to Geaux Blue on this day by wearing blue clothing or ribbons and decorating your homes, mailboxes, trees and businesses with big, beautiful blue wreaths, bows, lights and other decorative items.  We want our men and women in blue to see blue wherever they work in the City and know they are appreciated.

Affected by the August 5th flooding? Here's what you can do.

On August 5th, as much as 8 to 10 inches of rain fell in isolated areas of the city within three to four hours. Many neighborhoods of the city saw rainfall amounts equaling a 1 percent chance of occurring in any year, a so-called 100-year event. Community organizations are our partners in preparedness and response, and several have stepped up to the call for assistance in the aftermath of this event. PCAB's “Chat with the Chief”

The officers of the Police Community Advisory Boards gathered on June 24 with Chief Michael Harrison to discuss the methods and best practices of police-citizen engagement.   The chief was joined by the leadership of each police district.

After hearing an overview of the department, citizen leaders and commanders broke off into groups by district to converse about neighborhood specific ideas and challenges.  This 2.5 hour workshop culminated with each district sharing their ideas, best practices and next steps.

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Venetian Isles Area of New Orleans

New Orleans – Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the Venetian Isles area. This event is the result of a water main break that has caused pressure in Venetian Isles to drop below the standard.  The repair to the break is still forthcoming due to high water in this subdivision located outside of flood protection.

Residents in Venetian Isles are advised per the Louisiana Department of Health not to drink, make ice, or brush teeth with tap water until further notice. Residents in the Venetian Isles area that are immune-compromised are advised not to wash hands, or shower or bathe. All other residents are advised to take the following precautions:

Participate in a City-Assisted Evacuation Exercise

Hurricane season is approaching. In preparation, the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) and Evacuteer.org are conducting a full-scale simulation exercise of the City-Assisted Evacuation plan on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. NOHSEP is seeking hundreds of volunteers to participate in this exercise to role-play as evacuees. Lunch and parking will be provided.
