Upcoming Streetlight Conversions and Road Projects

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is excited to announce more LED streetlight conversion projects to begin before the end of 2014 in neighborhoods across the city.  LED streetlights reduce the use of energy, maintenance, and operational costs, plus they improve system reliability.  Since July, the City has begun a major streetlight improvement program which will convert approximately 19.800 streetlights to LED lighting within a year.  For more information:

DPW is also beginning two major road reconstruction projects in November--one in the East Carrollton neighborhood and one in the Touro neighborhood.  Four blocks of Cherokee Street from Hampson to Freret will receive new drainage, sewer, and water lines, plus new sidewalks, driveway aprons, asphalt, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps at sidewalk corners through a bond-funded project.  In the Touro area, repairs of Katrina-damaged roads and infrastructure will begin in November as well, funded by FEMA through the Recovery Roads program.  For more information:
