January 7, 2023 | From City of New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS —The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation coordinated with Richard's Disposal (RDI) to bring supplemental equipment and resources into Service Areas 1 and 4 from New Orleans contractors along with RDI resources from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Jackson, Mississippi.
“The City issued RDI a cure letter on December 16th, requesting they take prompt and corrective action to stabilize collections in Service Areas 1 and 4,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “In subsequent weeks, RDI's performance significantly degraded. The City has initiated the process to supplement RDI's daily collections with outside resources starting next week, at considerable expense to the City. My apologies for the inconveniences caused. We will continue to deliver sustained improvements just as we did in Service Area 1. My goal is for the City of New Orleans to have quality, equitable services.”
Residents in Service Areas 1 and 4 will see additional supplemental equipment and resources starting next week. These resources will stabilize scheduled solid waste and recycling collections in Service Areas 1 and 4. On January 10, The City of New Orleans executive staff will meet with RDI to determine a permanent path forward.
