NOLA Youth Works

The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program provides quality summer experiences that build a pipeline to career opportunities for local youth ages 13-24.

The focus of the summer employment program is to expose participants to careers of interest with the intention of creating a career ready workforce.

Youth will earn while they gain experience to define their career goals.

This brochure includes important information about the program as well as a checklist of required documents needed to complete you application during the in-person appointment.

2024 Programs

Through deliberate program design, cross-sector collaborations and strategic incentives, the 2024 City of New Orleans Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program will host three distinct programs, and NORD will host one.

  • The deadline to submit applications is Friday, May 10th, 2024.
  • You may only submit one application for MSYEP.
  • Submission of an application does not guarantee that you will be offered a summer experience.

Traditional ($15.00/hr)

Youth will be engaged in a friendly work environment to learn about the responsibilities of work

  • Ages: 16-24
  • 2024 Dates: June 3rd – July 12th

Junior Camp Counselors – (Ages 18-24) Youth who are interested in working as Summer Camp Counselors at various New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) camp facilities.

Apply in 3 Steps:

  1. Apply for Traditional
  2. Schedule a meeting with the MSYEP
  3. Meet with MSYEP making sure to bring original copies of the following:
    • Applicant’s Birth Certificate or Birth Card
    • Current Applicant’s ID: (2023–2024 School ID/LA State ID/LA Driver’s License)
    • Applicant’s Social Security Card
    • Applicant’s Most Recent Report Card/Progress Report
    • Proof of Address: (Lease, Utility Bill, Voter’s Registration Card)
    • Proof of Income (College interns ONLY): (All income in the last 30 days (No W-2) FITAP Letter/SNAP/Child Support Printout/Social Security Printout(s)/College award letter)
    • Proof of Guardianship ID: (name must be on the child’s birth certificate or must provide legal proof of guardianship)
    • Parent/Guardian ID (if you are under 18)
    • Proof of Selective Service Enrollment (males ages 18–24)

Exclamation Triangle Upon completion of the application, you will be prompted to schedule an appointment for in-person registration.  You MUST schedule an appointment to continue the registration process.

Intern NOLA ($16.27/hr)

College students are provided with opportunities that are closely aligned with their program of study and academic major. Interns are expected to perform at a higher level to complete projects without direct supervision. Applicants must pass a drug test, submit resume and interview for consideration to this program.

  • Ages: 18-24
  • 2024 Dates: June 3rd – July 12th

  3. Meet with MSYEP making sure to bring original copies of the following:
    • Applicant’s Birth Certificate or Birth Card

    • Applicant’s Social Security Card

Work & Learn ($15.00/hr)

Youth will be provided with fundamental support to prepare for college entrance through the University of New Orleans Upward Bound Program. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.

  • Ages: 16-24
  • 2024 Dates: June 3rd – July 12th

  3. Meet with MSYEP making sure to bring original copies of the following:

NORD Teen Career Camps

The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) offers NORD Teen Career Camps allowing teens to gain valuable experience and explore careers. Breakfast, lunch, and field trips are provided. Participants earn a stipend of $75 per week over a six-week period.

  • Ages: 13-15
  • 2024 Dates: June 3rd – July 12th
