Homeowner Transported for Smoke Inhalation Following Residential Fire

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2:29 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 9-1-1 call reporting a residential fire in the 7700 block of Alabama St in New Orleans East.  The first NOFD company arrived on the scene of 7766 Alabama St at 2:33 p.m., finding heavy smoke coming from the living room area of the home and a female resident of the home being treated by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS). According to the homeowner, she was home alone at the time of the incident and was awaken by the sound of an explosion coming from the area of her computer desk in her living room.  She rushed to the area to investigate and was quickly overcome by the smoke, at that point she ran out of the home.

 

After being treated at the scene by NOEMS, the 60yr old female was transported to a local hospital for further observation. Eight NOFD units carrying twenty-seven Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 2:47 p.m.  The cause of the fire was determined to be Accidental/Electrical.  There were no other injuries reported.
