NOFD Fireboat “Blaze” Assists with Ship Fire on Intracoastal Waterway

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11:07 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department received a call from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) requesting assistance extinguishing a fire on a commercial fishing vessel in the Intracoastal Waterway.  NOFD Fireboat Blaze arrived on the scene, approximately one mile north of I-510, at 1:50 p.m. A partially submerged 30ft fishing boat with all above water portions of the vessel, from the engine compartment to the bow, was fully-involved upon arrival. The NOFD fireboat used an aerial stream to spray water onto the burning vessel, putting the fire out at 2:41 p.m.  There was no one on the boat at the time of extinguishment and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the USCG.
