NOPD OFFICER PLACED ON EMERGENCY SUSPENSION WITHOUT PAY

August 05, 2014

NEW ORLEANS, LA--Today, the New Orleans Police Department announced that 26-year-old NOPD Officer David Aranda has been placed on emergency suspension without pay after being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated on Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Causeway Police Department noticed Aranda driving erratically in his personal vehicle while heading northbound on the Causeway Bridge in St. Tammany Parish. Causeway Police stopped Aranda and administered a Standard Field Sobriety Test after detecting alcohol on Aranda's breath. Aranda failed the test and, as a result, Causeway Police placed Aranda under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

Following the arrest, as is NOPD protocol, NOPD Public Integrity Bureau immediately placed Aranda on emergency suspension without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Aranda is a 5-year veteran of the NOPD and was most recently assigned to the First District.
