Two People Killed in 9th Ward Traffic Fatality

(June 12, 2013)-Tonight the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section is investigating a Fatality that claimed the life of a 64-year-old man and an unidentified woman.  The accident occurred just after 8:30pm in the 4500 block of Almonaster Blvd.

A witness in the area who observed silver Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Almonaster Boulevard. Moments later the witness heard a loud crash and she immediately called for the police. Officers arrived and observed the silver Mustang flipped upside down. The vehicle appeared to have struck a utility pole causing the driver to lose control. The driver was ejected and thrown onto the roadway while the woman remained trapped and seat belted in the passenger’s seat.

Both occupants of the Mustang were pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators are still determining if speed was a factor.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at the present time. A Toxicology test will be performed.

Fatality Investigator Melvin Hunter is in charge of the investigation.
