NOPD Homicide detectives are looking for answers in the murders of a young local man and his 7-month old son last night near the Crescent City Connection. The two were riding in the back seat of a dark Honda sedan just before 9pm in the 2100- block of General de Gaulle Drive, when someone- believed to be a in a dark-colored vehicle- opened fire on the car.
The 25-year-old man was wounded and died on the scene. His 7-month-old son, who was fastened in his blue plaid car seat, was shot once to the left side of his head. EMS transported him to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Honda and the passenger in the front seat were unharmed. Preliminary information leads detectives to believe the shooter and the 25-year-old father knew each other, and that this shooting was not a random attack.
“I've been crossing under yellow tape for decades, and it's difficult and disturbing every single time. But it was heartbreaking to see what was clearly a bullet hole in the side of a baby’s car seat’, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas. ‘No family should have to endure the murder of a 7-month-old baby.”
“Our detectives are doing all they can to gather information to
identify those involved. But we need people who know something about
this to call us. Simply put: it’s the decent thing to do. It’s the
right thing to do. And it's our most effective way to put an end
to senseless violence", Serpas said.
