(May 17, 2014) New Orleans police are investigating two fatalities that left an unidentified man and a 30-year-old female cyclist dead. The first incident occurred around 10pm, on the I-610 just before the Saint Bernard Avenue exit.
The driver of a black Chevy Camaro stated he was headed eastbound in the middle lane when his rear tire had a blowout causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The driver stated the vehicle was spinning out of control when the female cyclist rear ended the vehicle. The cyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead on the scene.
This investigation is still ongoing and no citations issued nor has any charges been filed at the present time
Around 10:05pm, near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Michoud Boulevard, a 76-year-old man was driving a tan Chevy Pickup Truck travelling westbound of Chef Highway in the right lane when for unknown reasons the male pedestrian walked into his lane of travel. The pedestrian was struck and thrown several feet from the initial impact. The unidentified man was pronounced dead on the scene.
The 76-year-old driver was not cited in this accident.
