NORDC cheerleading competition and football championship games to take place Friday and Saturday at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) 2013 football and cheerleading season will culminate with a cheerleading competition, football championship games and a parade on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park in New Orleans East. 

All events are free and open to the public. 

Friday’s cheerleading competition will feature performances by 16 squads in three divisions.  The teams competing in the Pee Wee division (ages 5-8) are the Willie Hall Panthers, Cut-Off Warriors, Milne Patriots, Bodenger Jaguars, St. Roch Crusaders and Goretti Saints. The Junior Varsity division (ages 9-12) features St. Roch Crusaders, Norman Wildcats, Cut-Off Warriors, Goretti Saints, Milne Patriots and Joe W. Brown Spartans. In the Varsity division (ages 13-14) the competing teams  are Willie Hall Panthers, Milne Patriots, Sampson Knights and Bodenger Jaguars.  There will also be a special guest performance by the New Orleans Pelicans Dance Team.  The competition will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Joe W. Brown Recreational Center.

On Saturday, the public is invited to a NORDC parade to cheer on the football championship teams, cheerleaders and marching band. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Lowe's, 5770 Read Boulevard, and proceed to Joe W. Brown Park, 5601 Read Boulevard, and into Victory Stadium.

Following the parade, football teams in five divisions will compete in the following championship games:

 

  • Novice division (ages 5-6): Bodenger Jaguars vs. Willie Hall Panthers at 10:30 a.m.
  • Freshman division (ages 7-8): Harrell Rams vs. Bodenger Jaguars at 12 p.m.
  • Senior division (ages 13-14): Pontchartrain Patriots vs.  A.L. Davis Panthers at 1:30 p.m.
  • Junior division (ages 11-12): Willie Hall Panthers vs. Harrell Rams at 3 p.m.
  • Sophomore division (ages 9-10): Willie Hall Panthers vs. Harrell Rams at 4:30 p.m.

No ice chests, outside food & beverages or alcohol will be allowed in the stadium.  The public is encouraged to support the Booster Club with concessions purchases.

The football and cheerleading programs, which started on September 3, included over 3,100 participants in football at 29 NORDC sites and 400 participants in cheerleading at 16 NORDC sites. In addition to providing training and competition at various levels, NORDC Athletics also build character and create social growth environments.  During the season, the teams and squads also undertook many community service projects including helping the homeless, distributing free school supplies and promoting breast cancer screenings.   

One of the cheerleading squads, the Goretti Saints, attended the Junior Saintsations Camp and performed at the Saints pre-season game against the Raiders on August 16.
