Activities for Adults 18+ and Seniors 55+

NORDC offers offers a wide variety of fitness and wellness opportunities for adults in New Orleans. Our goal is to fulfill the physical needs of our patrons by providing classes that are geared for all fitness levels and abilities. All programs are free to the public unless otherwise stated. 


Senior Choir

The NORDC Senior Choir group is made up of seniors 55+ of all musical skill levels who like to sing and have fun. Participation is free and the only requirement is to complete a registration form. 

Choir practice is wrapped up for the spring season and will resume in the fall. Please check back for dates and locations.  For more details about the Senior Choir, click here


Piano Lessons

NORDC offers professional piano and voice lessons at several Rec Centers for all ages starting at age 6.  Each session culminates in a public piano recital.  For details, click here.

NORDC/NOBA Center for Dance
Senior Dance Fitness age 55+

Stretching, cardio and dance, fun music, and healthy eating and lifestyle education. Other program features include performance opportunities, access to special master workshops, social events, and $5 tickets to select NOBA Main Stage presentations.

Registration ongoing. Start anytime. Blank forms are available from the instructors or download here. Comfortable dance or exercise attire is recommended.  Bring a yoga or exercise mat. (A few are available to borrow on a first come basis.) Schedule is subject to change. Members of the Senior Dance Fitness Program (Jazzy Seniors and Sassy Seniors) have received many medals in the team dance competition of the Greater New Orleans Senior Olympics. For details, click here.


Free Summer Teen & Adult Dance and Fitness Classes 
ages 14 to 80+

The Chevron Studio at Lyons Rec Center
Saturdays through August 1 (except July 4)
10:00-11:00am Dance Fitness
11:15am-12:45pm All Levels Ballet

Dance Fitness classes feature a safe yet effective series of warm-up exercises that stretch, strengthen, and condition the body prior to easy and fun dance routines set to an awesome music soundtrack. Instructor: Rebecca Chauvin

All Levels Ballet for teens and adults is taught at an intermediate level and open to all levels of experience. Whether learning the basics of the art form or working on enhancing technique and artistry, these classes emphasize proper and healthy alignment, technical proficiency, challenging travelling exercises, and musicality in a fun, engaging, and creative space. · Enrollment is required the first time you attend.
· Forms are available on site from your instructor or click here for adults or click here for youth under 18.
· Each class session is filled on a first come, first served basis.

Suggested Attire
· Comfortable dance or exercise attire is recommended.
· Ballet shoes are recommended for All Levels Ballet.
· Shoes must be removed prior to entering The Chevron Studio.
· Bring a yoga or exercise mat. (A few are available to borrow on a first come, first served basis.)

Fitness Centers at Treme and Sanchez Centers

Ages 18+ Jump on a treadmill, stationary bike or elliptical machine.  Treme Rec Center  Sanchez Center 

Adult Exercise with Teddy Harkness

Ages 18+ Drop in anytime on this fun and invigorating and fun class!  Teddy Harkness, the jovial instructor, leads the class through cardio moves and core strengthening exercises.  Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.

Fit NOLA Parks

All ages.  Free, fun physical activities for all ages are offered at Taylor, Norwood Thompson, and St. Roch playgrounds.  For locations, schedules and other info, click here.

Basketball and Volleyball Open Play

Adult swim lessons, lap swimming, and adult water aerobics are offered year round.  For the schedule, click here.   Additional classes and activities are held at outdoor pools across the city that are open only during the summer.



Treme Rec Center Wednesday 6-7:30pm 
Zachary Ramsey III's leads this African Kemetic Yoga, a healing practice that combines controlled deep breathing and physical movements.

Movies in the Park

All ages.  Join us for free family-friendly movies on Friday evenings during the Spring and Fall.  The movies start at sunset but come early for fun physical activities.  For details, click here.
