The US Department of Housing and Urban Development is making nearly $1 billion available to states and counties/parishes that suffered damage from presidentially declared disasters in 2011, 2012, or 2013 to fix that damage and build more resiliently to withstand future disasters and address ongoing ‘stresses’ such as poverty, homelessness, and public health disparities. The City of New Orleans is applying for a portion of the funding being made available through this National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC) grant to address remaining damage from Hurricane Isaac in 2012 and to undertake projects and programs that will enhance our resilience into the future.

Our Application

The NDRC grant application is two-phased. The first phase application, submitted in March 2015, did not include specific projects/programs. Rather, it asked the City of New Orleans to frame the biggest threats, risks, vulnerabilities we face and to describe opportunities for enhanced resilience. Top-scoring respondents to Phase 1 were invited to submit Phase 2 applications, which were to include specific projects/programs and was due in October 2015.

Phase 2 Application Submittal

The City New Orleans submitted a final Phase 2 NDRC application on October 27, 2015.
