Connect with Crisis Intervention Services

This form is the "NOPD C.I.T. Resource Sheet," a critical reference tool used by New Orleans Police Department officers who are part of the Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T.) program.

Purpose and function of this form:

  1. Crisis Response Tool: It serves as a quick reference guide for officers responding to situations involving individuals in crisis, providing alternatives to arrest when appropriate.
  2. Community Resource Directory: The sheet lists contact information for various social services organized into four main categories:
    • Mental Health: Including mobile crisis response teams, community clinics, and hotlines
    • Substance Abuse: Detox facilities, treatment centers, and evaluation services
    • Domestic Violence Shelters: Safe housing options for people fleeing abuse
    • Homeless Services: Shelters, multi-service centers, and assistance programs
  3. Diversion Resource: Part of a broader approach to divert people with mental illness, substance abuse issues, or experiencing homelessness away from the criminal justice system and toward appropriate services.
  4. C.I.T. Program Component: Crisis Intervention Team training teaches officers specialized skills for dealing with mental health crises. This resource sheet complements that training by connecting officers to community partners.
  5. Community Policing Tool: Reflects NOPD's commitment to community-oriented policing by equipping officers to serve as connectors to social services rather than just enforcing laws.
