FINS Case Manager (Full-Time)

Hours of work:

General work hours are 8:30am-4:00pm., Monday-Friday. Employees are subject to early morning and evening duty assignments. Exempt from overtime compensation. Will be required to work whatever hours are necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties and demands of the position. Thirty-five-hour (35) work week.

Position purpose:

Under general supervision the purpose of the position is to conduct assessments for youth and their families, identify root causes, and connect clients with community-based resources. Accomplish the activities enumerated in the Louisiana Children's Code Title VII.

This class is characterized by the performance of a variety of complex administrative, case management, and legal duties as a primary and continuing part of assigned responsibility for the determination of legal action and as a responsibility for families in need of services under the Court's supervision. Incumbent may be responsible for ongoing or reoccurring projects.

Incumbent must possess knowledge of the Children's Code and available social services. Responsivities may differ depending on assignment.

DUTIES

  • Receive all complaints alleging the family needs services.
  • Reviews screening information regarding preliminary investigation into the merits of the allegations.
  • Assess and define problem behaviors in the family; recommend and assist in the implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Identify any public institutions or agencies having the legal responsibility and ability to supply any needed services to the child and family.
  • Provide accurate reports in verbal and written 
  • Maintain accurate log of caseload.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with social agencies, service providers, and members of the community.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Respond to crisis situations with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ascertain documentation from families and service providers.
  • Attend court hearing, prepare court reports and testify in court, when necessary
  • Participate in collaborative efforts between the Court, School system and other agencies.
  • Work cooperatively with administration, court staff, and clerks.
  • Handle diverse tasks while maintaining attention to details for accuracy.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks such as answering phones, filing, copying, and faxing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws pertaining to status offenses (truancy, ungovernable behavior, and child abuse and welfare)
  • Knowledge of legal and counseling terminology and of State, Parish, And Juvenile Court proceedings
  • Knowledge of evidence-based counseling techniques and social service casework methods
  • Skilled in mediation, interviewing, and making assessments.
  • Skilled in verbal and written reporting
  • Skilled in written and oral communication for effective expression 

Clarity Job Requirements

  • A master’s degree in social work preferred, bachelor’s degree in social work or a closely related field.
  • Two years of previous experience and/or training with case management, family law, investigations, and exposure to legal terminology; or an equivalent combination.
  • Ability to extend periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping, report preparation, and records retention.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing with Judges, Judicial Administration, coworkers, supervisors, social service agencies, and the community; including professional ethics (gender, racial and cultural diversities; and disabilities).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and other court information according to law.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to be innovative and make decisions.

Leave:

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) is accrued annually, for a combined total of 168 hours. Case Managers must use the PTO within the fiscal year, the days do not roll over from fiscal year to fiscal year. Employees will not receive terminal leave pay for PTO. Contract employees are not eligible for FEMLA.

Holiday:

  • 15 paid holidays subject to change upon Orleans Parish Juvenile Court Judges' discretion.

Pay

  • Employees are paid once a month, on the last business day of the month.
