MAYOR CANTRELL ANNOUNCES INFRASTRUCTURE ADVISORY BOARD FOR OVERSIGHT OF SEWERAGE & WATER BOARD

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor LaToya Cantrell today announced an Infrastructure Advisory Board to provide oversight of the Sewerage & Water Board (S&WB). The board, which has four members named by Mayor Cantrell and three members by Gov. John Bel Edwards, was created in June by the Mayor’s executive order.

“The ‘Fair Share’ legislation provides much-needed infrastructure investment and maintenance in the City of New Orleans. The Infrastructure Advisory Board will support the Director and the Sewerage & Water Board by providing oversight of that new revenue, and potentially helping to lead reform activities in the future,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Mayor Cantrell appointed the following members to the Infrastructure Advisory Board:

  • Neil Abramson
  • Elisa Speranza
  • Lewis Stirling
  • Karen Raymond

Gov. Edwards appointed the following members to the Infrastructure Advisory Board:

  • Bill Hammack
  • Paul Flower
  • Casey Tingle

Paul Flower has been named the board chair.

The board will serve four main functions:

  • Review spending of revenue deposited into the Infrastructure Maintenance Fund (“IMF”) as provided for by a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between the City and S&WB for the benefit of S&WB;
  • Provide Quarterly reports to the Mayor and S&WB board of directors on the group’s activities;
  • Make recommendations as needed to the Mayor, the Governor, the New Orleans City Council, and the Louisiana Legislature regarding any identified improvements or reforms necessary to ensure the S&WB is a high performing utility;
  • Facilitate meaningful discussions within the Advisory Board by a process adopted by the Infrastructure Advisory Board
