City's Partner AT&T Expands #BelieveNewOrleans Initiative in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that AT&T has engaged in New Orleans East through its Believe New Orleans campaign. This initiative is an expansion of their previous work, with a $175,000 donation to SHARP Men New Orleans, The First 72+, and Fund17. This brings their total financial commitment to the Believe New Orleans campaign to nearly $600,000 in less than two years.

Through Believe New Orleans, AT&T is working with community leaders and organizations to impact historic New Orleans East, to combat poverty and support residents who are pursuing greater opportunities.

“We are so grateful to AT&T for their support to our community organizations this year in helping to combat poverty. Their contributions are vital in helping stop the cycle of incarceration by fostering independence through education, stable and secure housing and employment, healthcare and community engagement. Our city needs this kind of support now more than ever, so it is imperative that organizations step up to assist in any way possible," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

The company’s work with SHARP Men New Orleans will support their efforts to recruit, train and provide resources to men in the City of New Orleans to help them be successful in their careers.

The First 72+ will direct AT&T’s support to their efforts to help stop the cycle of incarceration by fostering independence and self-sustainability through education, stable and secure housing and employment, healthcare and community engagement.

In addition to financial support, local members of the Women of AT&T employee group will provide additional professional development and mentoring to formerly incarcerated women.

And finally, AT&T is engaged with Fund17 to support area entrepreneurs and cultivate a more inclusive business environment across the city.

“We believe in the promise of New Orleans East,” said Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Southern States. “The people of New Orleans East are a tremendous influence on the history, the character, and the culture of this city, and we believe that they have the talent and the drive to spur greater successes across New Orleans.”

Collaborating with area non-profits and organizations, AT&T’s Believe New Orleans campaign is focused on improving skills development and academic achievement; inspiring entrepreneurship and innovation; and helping close the economic gaps in the community.

By working with organizations focused on the community’s needs, AT&T employees will engage in efforts to create a better future full of opportunity and achievement in the community, while highlighting the strengths of the neighborhoods across New Orleans East.

The City commends the work of businesses like AT&T who are giving back to their community through a variety of different initiatives and donations.
