TOMORROW: Recycling Center to Resume Operations

NEW ORLEANS — As part of the City’s Phase 2 reopening plan, the Department of Sanitation’s Recycling Drop-Off Center will resume operations on tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. 

 

There are no changes to the following items accepted:

  • Plastics #1 (soda/water bottles) and Plastics #2 (milk/juice/shampoo/detergent containers);
  • Paper: newspapers, junk mail phone books, catalogs, office paper;
  • Corrugated cardboard, boxboard (cereal boxes/soft drink boxes);
  • Small aluminum and steel cansE-waste (computers, laptops, telephones/telephone systems, keyboards, speakers, telephone/computer cables, x-boxes, PlayStations, Wii, MP3/DVD/CD Players, UPS, Circuit boards, Portable Navigation/GPS devices, ink jet/toner cartridges, Digital cameras/video recorders (DVRs), Fax machines, small printers, monitors, processors, networking equipment, stereos, security systems);
  • Batteries (AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, 6 & 9 volt, Lithium);
  • Light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent);
  • Televisions (limit 4)Tires (limit 5);
  • Mardi Gras beads; and
  • Organics for composting; fruit/vegetable scraps (peels, skins, pits or seeds), tea bags, coffee grounds and paper filters, egg shells, nut shells, seed shells, plain bread, grains, and plain pasta (no toppings, meat, bones, dairy or foods with oil);
  • Glass (limit 50 lbs.)

In an effort to keep employees and visitors to the site safe, we ask that persons wear face coverings, follow all directions and signage, and practice social distancing at all times.

 

Items should be separated into the following categories: 

  • Paper, plastics, cardboard, electronics, batteries, light bulbs, Mardi Gras beads, organics for composting, tires and glass
  • Items to be dropped off should be placed in the trunks of vehicles or in the beds of  trucks.
  • Loose or small items should be placed in bags or containers that can be left at the facility (We will no longer be able to return containers or bags to individuals)
  • Clearly label each disposable container or bag ‘For Drop Off’ (Post-it notes are fine)

Persons are encouraged in stay in their vehicles and allow Sanitation employees to remove the items. If someone feels that they must get out of their vehicle, we ask that they practice social distancing. 

 

Sanitation employees are required to wear face coverings or face shields, gloves and safety vests at all times and to limit face to face contact. Only employees with face shields and gloves provided will be accepting items directly from residents. Sanitation Rangers will no longer distribute schedules of future events on-site.
