City of New Orleans Expands Outdoor Seating Options During Phase One (May 16)

This past weekend, the City of New Orleans Department of Safety and Permits announced it will temporarily suspend enforcement of off-street parking requirements for restaurants and bars with a Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) food permit and will issue temporary Sidewalk Use Permits in order to provide additional outdoor seating that is properly socially distanced.

City Agencies, Services and Partners Prepare for First Week of Phase One of Reopening (May 15)

On May 15, City health, safety and other agencies and partners updated residents on individual and collective efforts for the first week of Phase One of the safe reopening of New Orleans as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed nearly 500 lives in the City and more than 2,000 deaths statewide.

Mayor Cantrell Issues Proclamation for Phase One of Reopening (May 15)

Mayor LaToya Cantrell on May 15 issued the following proclamation regarding the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RTA increases transit service and reinstates fare collection (May 13)

Beginning Sunday, May 17, at 3 a.m., the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority returned to Saturday service on all bus and streetcar routes and reinstate fare collection as part of the Phase 1 reopening of the City of New Orleans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Cantrell Outlines Safe, Phased Reopening Of New Orleans In Response To COVID-19 (May 12)

On May 12, Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced the guidelines for the first phase of a safe reopening of New Orleans as the City nears the end of the “Stay Home” mandate. This will be the first of four phases the City hopes to implement while continuing to “flatten the curve” of the outbreak. Phase One began on Saturday, May 16, at 6 a.m.

City Updates Residents on Data Used to Plan for Reopening of City in Response to COVID-19 Outbreak (May 11)

On May 11, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Health Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno provided residents with an overview of the data being examined and informing plans to begin a gradual reopening of the city in the coming weeks.

Free Walk-Up Testing Continues in New Orleans Neighborhoods (May 9)

The New Orleans Health Department, LCMC Health, and LSU Health Sciences continued to offer free COVID-19 testing at walk-up sites in New Orleans neighborhoods this past week.
