NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Season 14 Continues

NEW ORLEANS — On Saturday, April 22, 2017, the City of New Orleans alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, Domino’s Pizza and PlayNOLA will continue Season 14 of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, a program that focuses on providing safe recreational activity, jobs and opportunities in crime hot spots for males over 16 years old through basketball, mentorship and support.

Mayor Landrieu Taps Germaine Simon to Serve as New Director of Juvenile Detention

NEW ORLEANS - Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu named Mr. Germaine Simon as the Director of Juvenile Detention for the City of New Orleans. Joining the Mayor’s Public Safety Team, Simon will be responsible for implementation of best practices for the protection of children throughout the detention process.

Mayor Landrieu Announces New Orleans’ First-Ever Equity Strategy

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu hosted the EquityNewOrleans Strategy Launch to roll out the City’s first-ever equity strategy. Spearheaded by Mayor Landrieu, the Equity Strategy seeks to address inequities due to economic, racial or geographic disparities that prevent New Orleans from growing to its full capacity.

City Completes Work to Increase Security Measures at Municipal Auditorium

NEW ORLEANS—Today, the City of New Orleans announced that it has completed work to increase security measures at the Municipal Auditorium (1201 St. Peter St.). In an effort to secure all access points to the building, the City reinforced all doors, windows and HVAC units with steel panels. Additionally, a 24-hour security detail is stationed at the Municipal Auditorium to prevent illegal trespassing on the property.

City Issues Property Tax Reminder

NEW ORLEANS— Today, the City of New Orleans issued an important property tax reminder. At the end of April, residents will receive a supplemental property tax bill with payment due May 31, 2017. On December 10, 2016, New Orleans voters approved a new property tax millage for fire protection and renewed a tax dedicated to drainage projects.

Mayor Landrieu and City Officials Launch Algiers Courthouse Renovations

NEW ORLEANS—Yesterday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City Officials to launch the renovations of the Historic Algiers Courthouse (225 Morgan Street). The courthouse was originally constructed in 1896 and serves as the home of the Second City Court. Nearly $1.2 million in renovations are scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2017.

Mayor Landrieu’s Office of Community Development Awards Over $12 Million to Create and Preserve Affordable Housing Units

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s Office of Community Development (OCD) has awarded over $12 million to development partners to create or preserve over 700 affordable rental and homeownership units in the City. The announcement comes during Fair Housing Month, which was created to commemorate of the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968.

Mayor Landrieu Announces New Orleans' First-Ever Equity Strategy

NEW ORLEANS - Tomorrow, Mayor Landrieu will roll out New Orleans’ first-ever equity strategy for City government. EquityNewOrleans, a citywide initiative that has assessed the role of equity in local government, will present an implementation strategy to address economic, racial or geographic inequities that can prevent New Orleans from growing to its full capacity.
