City of New Orleans, Japanese sister city Matsue to participate in plant exchange

October 18, 2012

New Orleans, LA – On Friday, October 19, 2012, the City of New Orleans will reinforce its cultural ties and friendship with its international sister city, Matsue, Japan, by hosting a plant exchange and other special activities.

Members of the media are invited to the plant exchange taking place at 10:30AM at the Dillard University greenhouse, located behind Rosenwald Hall on the Dillard campus. The City will accept a gift of Japanese fig tree cuttings and in return will give the Matsue delegation a collection of okra seeds. The fig plants will be housed and cultivated in Dillard’s greenhouse during a required quarantine period, then will be planted in school gardens that are part of FirstLine School’s Edible Schoolyard New Orleans initiative.
