City of New Orleans launches Police Community Advisory Boards

November 08, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today at 5PM, New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Superintendent Ronal Serpas and Sgt. L.J. Smith, Commander of the Crime Prevention Unit, will be available to speak to the media about the new Police Community Advisory Boards (PCAB) for each of the City’s eight NOPD districts.

The seven-member PCABs will be trained by the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service on conducting community meetings, submitting recommendations and complaints to the NOPD and implementing action plans. The community advisory boards are a recommendation of the U.S. Department of Justice, and are an early success in the City’s implementation of a consent decree to oversee transformation of the NOPD.

The goal of each PCAB is to better foster communication between residents and the NOPD and to provide feedback and recommendations on safety and quality-of-life issues.
