NOLA FOR LIFE Volunteer Day on Saturday will revitalize East Shore Playground and Little Woods Neighborhood

November 09, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA—On Saturday, November 10, 2012, the City of New Orleans will host the second NOLA FOR LIFE Volunteer Day, with residents of the Little Woods neighborhood, City workers and volunteers from across the community teaming up to spruce up East Shore Playground and the surrounding community.

The effort is part of Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s NOLA FOR LIFE comprehensive murder reduction strategy, which encourages citizens to get involved to help improve the quality-of-life and increase public safety around the city.

“To make our city safe, we all have to do our part, especially at the neighborhood level,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “With the NOLA FOR LIFE Volunteer Day, were going into areas that need a little extra attention to fight the conditions that threatens public safety and degrades the quality of life.”

Volunteer activities will include painting and installing East Shore Playground signs, building and installing basketball court benches, performing minor landscaping work and cleaning up the area. The effort also includes City services to address safety and quality of life issues, with work in the area by Public Works, Parks & Parkways, Sanitation, New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), Code Enforcement/New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA), and the Sewerage & Water Board.
