NORDC to continue successful Movies in the Park program

September 03, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA — This week, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) kicks off the Fall 2013 season of Movies in the Park, a free program featuring family-friendly movies in NORDC playgrounds for residents across the City.

The Fall season kicks off on Friday, September 6 with “The Incredibles” at Burke Playground, 2524 Annunciation Street. Concession sales benefit the Lyons Burke Booster Club for playground activities.

Throughout the fall, residents will have the opportunity to watch family movies for free on a large portable outdoor movie screen in grassy areas in parks and playgrounds across the city. Movies will begin at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Movie goers are encouraged to arrive early to relax with family and friends and participate in fun physical fitness activities. This Friday, the guest will be Jay Spaul (ViSalus’ Body By Vi Challenge).

In addition to the Friday evening movies, NORDC is partnering with the National Night Out Against Crime for “Men in Black 3” on Tuesday, October 8 the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library, 5120 St. Charles Avenue

“Movies in the Park is one of many initiatives that highlight our push to become the leading recreation program in the entire country and provide a fun and safe environment for our families in New Orleans,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. “It is a chance for people to get together and enjoy movies and the company of their friends and neighbors.”

“Movies in the Park is an innovative partnership between NORDC and community organizations across the city,” said Vic Richard, CEO of NORDC.  “Since 2011, over 6,000 families and friends have gathered together to watch movies at New Orleans playgrounds, which are the heart and soul of neighborhoods.”

Movies in the Park is free and open to the public. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, weapons, smoking, or cooking will be allowed during the event.
