NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of scheduled road construction on Perdido Street between LaSalle Street and Loyola Avenue that will affect access to City Hall.
On Monday, June 2, 2014, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans will begin replacing an underground waterline on Perdido Street between LaSalle Street and Loyola Avenue. The two month construction project involves excavating the roadway to replace the damaged waterline, and repaving and restriping the roadway. Once complete, Perdido Street between LaSalle Street and Loyola Avenue will increase traffic flow and improve pedestrian access.
This construction is part of a $124 million FEMA-funded Waterline Replacement Program designed to improve the water distribution system infrastructure that was severely damage by Hurricane Katrina floodwaters.
Traffic delays during construction are likely. Residents should allow for extra time to park if visiting City Hall. One lane for through traffic on Perdido Street will be maintained during normal working hours; however, parking on the street will be limited. City Hall will be accessible throughout construction from both the Perdido Street and Poydras Street entrances.
Temporary construction impacts should be expected including limited access to the areas within the construction zone; traffic delays; movement of heavy equipment; safety signage; and sounds. Construction crews will be working from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
