City to Host Trainings for Contractors on 'HireNOLA' and DBE program rules

NEW ORLEANS—The City of New Orleans will continue the series of free seminars to provide training on its new Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) contract and labor compliance software systems and HireNOLA policy. The trainings are open to the public and will be held at Delgado Community College City Park Campus, H. Giles Hall, 615 City Park Ave., New Orleans, LA  70119.

New Orleans Awarded Over $141 million from HUD's National Disaster Resilience Competition

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu was joined by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and City, State and Federal officials to celebrate the City of New Orleans award of $141.3 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC)

Krewe du Vieux, Krewe Delusion Parking Instructions and Traffic Restrictions

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the 2016 Krewe du Vieux and Krewe Delusion parades scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. The City also encouraged the public to be patient and prepared for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the specified areas and to make transportation arrangements accordingly.

City Activates Freeze Plan for Homeless

NEW ORLEANS — The City is activating its Citywide Freeze Plan (CFP) beginning overnight on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, and ending Sunday morning, Jan. 24, 2016, as the National Weather Service forecasts the temperature or wind chill to fall below the plan’s activation threshold of 35 degrees. The City's freeze plan will be in effect to provide temporary shelter for homeless residents.

City to Open Application Period for Accessible Taxicab CPNCs

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced that the application timeline for new Accessible Taxicab Certificates of Public Necessity and Convenience (AT CPNCs) will open on Feb. 1, 2016, and close on March 4, 2016. AT CPNCs will expand transportation options for people with disabilities by requiring operation of taxicabs which meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Ryan Berni Named Deputy Mayor of External Affairs

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu named Ryan Berni as Deputy Mayor of External Affairs for the City of New Orleans. In this capacity, Berni will oversee Communications, Intergovernmental Relations and Policy initiatives. These units work to communicate the message of City initiatives, as well as to ensure that City Hall is working in collaboration with all of its partners at the municipal, state and federal level.

NORDC Teen Council to Host Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball

NEW ORLEANS – On Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) and Chevron will host a Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball. Led by the NORDC Teen Council, this free event will feature music by DJ Chicken, a photo booth, food, a special musical guest and the election of the 2016 Teen Council Mardi Gras Court. All Orleans Parish teens, ages 12-17, are invited to celebrate a happy and safe Mardi Gras with members of the NORDC Teen Council.

Parades are scheduled to begin next Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.

Mayor Landrieu, Federal, State Health Officials Prepare for Citywide Day of Enrollment

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join Deputy Assistant Secretary J. Nadine Gracia of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and Office of Minority Health, Secretary Rebekah Gee of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, and other local officials to encourage residents enroll in health coverage through the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace (the Marketplace) before the 2016 deadline.
