Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that all school zone traffic cameras and flashing beacons have begun being deactivated for the summer break. The process is currently under way with all devices being deactivated to coincide with the last dates that each school will be in session for this school year. All devices will be fully deactivated by July 14th. The City of New Orleans (City) anticipates reactivating these systems when schools resume in August.

On March 11, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 (H.R. 1319) into law. The $1.9 trillion package is designed to directly combat the COVID 19- pandemic and its impacts to states and municipalities. The City of New Orleans received $388 million in ARPA funds and as of February 2024, $245 million has been spent and another $48.5 million has been obligated, representing 76 percent of the City’s total appropriation.
