Enabling Fair Job Classification and Compensation 

The Classification and Pay Division upholds the backbone of the merit system, ensuring all 5,300+ classified personnel across 35+ agencies receive accurate job titling, pay grading, and salary administration under the uniform pay requirements of Article X of the Louisiana Constitution. 

The Pay Plan is a list of all positions in the classified service.  It includes the job title, classification code, pay grade and the salary range (minimum/maximum).

 

Classified Office Support employees who are assigned to use keyboarding skills and are proficient in Microsoft Office tools may be eligible to receive five percent over their normal rate of pay.

To be eligible, employees must be assigned keyboarding duties in writing by their appointing authority, type at the rate of at least 40 words per minute (after the deduction of errors) and present proof of completion of coursework in two or more Microsoft Office tools.

Complete the Clerical Skills Special Rate of Pay Authorization form and submit it with the typing skills test application in Neogov.  Employees must submit certificates of completion of coursework in two or more Microsoft Office tools and the Authorization Form as attachments to their application in Neogov prior to being scheduled for the typing test.  The Neogov application link is: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/neworleans/jobs/

Exempt (salaried) employees who possess a professional certification related to the work they perform may be eligible for a 5% pay premium provided they meet the criteria established by Civil Service. 

Departments should enter requests for Professional Certification Pay into WorkflowGen. Departments without access to WorkflowGen should complete this form and submit it to Civil Service.

Non-exempt employees at pay grade 69 and below may be eligible for a special rate of compensation upon meeting the criteria established by Civil Service.

 
Degree Level Annual Premium 

  • Associate's Degree: 2.5%
  • Bachelor's Degree: 5%
  • Graduate Degree: 7.5%

Departments should enter requests for Educational Incentive Pay into WorkflowGen. Departments without access to WorkflowGen should complete this form

Sewerage and Water Board employees should complete this form (S&WB) and return it to the S&WB Human Resources Department. 

Current employees may be eligible to earn additional compensation for their successful efforts to recruit new hires for difficult to fill positions.
