City of New Orleans and Partners Release Housing Ecosystem Plan

The City of New Orleans today released the City’s “Housing Ecosystem Plan,” a ten-year strategy for addressing the local housing crisis. The plan is a collaborative effort reflecting feedback received from residents, community stakeholders, affordable housing developers, policymakers and local elected officials. The plan represents actionable steps the public sector housing agencies should take to improve the City’s affordable housing landscape. These agencies include the City’s Office of Community Development (OCD), the Mayor’s Office of Community Assets and Investment (OCAI), the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO), the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) and Finance New Orleans (FNO).

The Mayor’s Office of Housing Policy and Community Development will host a community-based outreach event to provide financial assistance to eligible renters who are at risk of electric or water disconnection.

City of New Orleans to Extend Total Community Action's Fiscal Management Services CEA for Low Barrier Shelter

The City of New Orleans will extend the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) between Total Community Action (TCA), Inc. and the City to continue acting as the fiscal agent for the Low Barrier Shelter (LBS) through May 31.

City of New Orleans Partners with Nonprofit SBP and NORA to Break Ground on 39 Affordable Housing Units in Lower Ninth Ward

The Mayor’s Office of Housing Policy and Community Development (OCD) Director Tyra Johnson Brown today joined District E Councilmember Oliver Thomas, SBP New Orleans Executive Director Kenneth Morgan, Jr., SBP Chief Financial Officer Keith McCulloch, New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) Executive Director Brenda Breaux, BankPlus Executive Vice President and Louisiana President Jeff Ehlinger and Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) Chief of Multifamily Production Louis Russell to break ground on the $11.7 million affordable housing development known as St. Claude Gardens II. This project is slated to bring 39 new affordable housing units across 20 scattered lots throughout the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans beginning in June 2024.

MAYOR CANTRELL TOURS NEWLY EXPANDED CITY OF NEW ORLEANS SHELTER AND ENGAGEMENT CENTER

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today joined the Office of Housing Policy and Community Development (OCD), Start Corporation and other partners on a tour of the City of New Orleans Shelter and Engagement Center, also known as the low barrier shelter located at 1530 Gravier Street.
