The Mayor's Office of Community Development is excited to partner with Rebuilding Together New Orleans to introduce the City of New Orleans Owner-Occupied Fortified Roof Program. This initiative is designed to help eligible Orleans Parish homeowners strengthen their homes against severe weather conditions.
What is a Fortified Roof? A fortified roof is engineered to withstand damage caused by high winds, heavy rain, hurricanes, and hailstorms. By reinforcing the roof structure and components, a fortified roof provides enhanced protection for your home. Additionally, having a fortified designation may qualify you for an annual wind mitigation credit, potentially lowering your insurance premium.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the City of New Orleans Fortified Roof Program, you must meet the following requirements:
- The property must be your primary residence
- The property must be located within Orleans Parish
- Your household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is approximately $65,600 for a family of four
Priority Consideration:
Priority will be given to the following applicants:
- Residents aged 62 and older
- Veterans
- Homeowners with special needs
Grant Funding:
- Eligible homeowners may receive up to $35,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to install a new fortified roof.
- Program Launch and Duration: The City of New Orleans Fortified Roof Program launched on May 31, 2024, and continues as long as funding remains available.
