On Saturday, March 22nd, the Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held the first Neighborhood Cares Initiative Community Day of 2025 in Gert Town.
Over 75 volunteers spent the morning participating in park improvements and cleaning the community, collecting over 50 trash bags, and cleaning 20 catch basins. City departments cut over 17 overgrown lots, filled 98 potholes, removed 15 abandoned vehicles and cleared dumping sites throughout the neighborhood.
At the community resource fair, 18 city agencies and nonprofits engaged residents and provided them with useful information. Free food, free snowballs, a game truck and music were enjoyed by residents. Additionally, Walgreens gave free flu vaccinations, and Giving Hope NOLA gave away 100 bags of free groceries.
The City of New Orleans Neighborhood Engagement Office was proud to partner with Mayor LaToya Cantrell, District B Councilmember Lesli Harris, Xavier University, Nice Guys Nola, Domino's Pizza, Giving Hope NOLA, Lamar Advertising, Walgreens and Starbucks. We want to thank all volunteers, sponsors, partners, and the New Orleans Police Department for their support and dedication in making this event a success!
