Past Neighborhood Cares Initiatives

On Saturday, May 24th, the Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held the second Neighborhood Cares Initiative Community Day of 2025 at Eastshore Playground.

Over 100 volunteers spent the morning participating in park improvements and cleaning the community, collecting over 100 trash bags and cleaning 20 catch basins. City departments cut over 30 overgrown lots, filled over 75 potholes, trimmed over 20 trees and weeds to clear stop signs, removed 10 abandoned vehicles, 1 horse trailer and cleared over 6 dumping sites throughout the neighborhood.

At the community resource fair, 13 city agencies and nonprofits engaged residents and provided them with useful information. Free food, BBQ, snowballs, a game truck, and music were enjoyed by residents. Guests also enjoyed a live musical performance that added to the festive and uplifting atmosphere. Additionally, Manning Family Children's gave free child immunizations, CRC We Care! We Share! provided over 500 boxes of fresh produce, dry goods and household products, and Giving Hope NOLA gave away over 100 bags of free groceries.
