Brides' March New Orleans 2024

Join us in taking a stand against domestic violence at the inaugural Brides' March New Orleans,                     Thursday, September 26th, 2024

What is the Brides' March?

The Brides' March New Orleans is an event that originated in 2001 in New York to commemorate Gladys Ricard, a Dominican woman who was murdered on her wedding day, September 26, 1999, by her abusive ex-boyfriend.

The goal of the Brides’ March is to raise awareness of domestic violence and its consequences for everyone in our communities. In paying tribute to the life of Gladys Ricard, we honor all of the battered women and other victime who have died as a result of domestic violence. During the march, we will distribute information about domestic violence and resources for victims and survivors.

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, we will march in memory of Ms. Gladys, in honor of survivors of domestic violence, and in solidarity with those participating in the Brides' March taking place in New York.

When and where will the Brides' March take place?

When: Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 9:30 am to approximately 11:30 am, rain or shine.

Where: We'll gather at 9:30 am on the steps of New Orleans City Hall (Perdido side, across from Duncan Plaza) for an invocation. From there, we'll walk up Loyola to Julia Street. Then, we'll march back to City Hall. For a map of the march route, please click here.
