The mission of the Office of Economic Development is to encourage inclusive economic growth and economic mobility by creating new jobs, revitalizing neighborhoods, investing in people and in priority industries, and creating systems to thrive. We envision a vibrant, equitable, and inclusive city where all New Orleanians—at every stage of their lives and in every neighborhood—enjoy access to economic opportunity, quality jobs, and a high quality of life for themselves and their families.

 

Business Services serves as a liaison between city government, local entrepreneurs and bussiness owners.

The Industrial Development Board of the City of New Orleans, Louisiana, Inc. (“IDB”) is a self-supporting, nonprofit public corporation created by the City Council to promote economic development within New Orleans. Similar boards exist in many parishes and municipalities under the authority of enabling laws originally passed by the Louisiana Legislature in 1962.

City of New Orleans Highlights its Diverse Business and Economic Base, Unveils Educational NASA Display in Louis Armstrong International Airport

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Michoud Assembly Facility Lionel Dutreix, New Orleans Aviation Board Chair Judge Michael Bagneris, as well as representatives from the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA), Greater New Orleans, Incorporated (GNO Inc.), New Orleans and Company and the Office of Congressman Troy Carter to unveil a new educational display in a prominent location at MSY highlighting NASA’s presence at the City’s Michoud Assembly Facility located in New Orleans East and overall highlighting the city’s diverse business and economic base.

City of New Orleans Reminds Businesses of Parklet Permit

The City of New Orleans today announced that it is now accepting applications for the Parklet Permit. The Parklet Permit builds upon the economic development opportunity created by the City of New Orleans’ nearly four-year Pilot Parklet Program that introduced parklets as an innovative means to safely attract customers to bars and restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

City of New Orleans Partners with UJAMAA Economic Development Corporation to Celebrate Completion of Claiborne Corridor Cultural Innovation District Marketplace

 On Wednesday, April 17, the City of New Orleans joined Ujamaa Economic Development Corporation, to celebrate the completion of phase one of the Claiborne Cultural Innovation District (CID), “Backatown Plaza.” The CDI is an area underneath the I-10 expressway along North Claiborne Avenue between Toulouse Street and Orleans Avenue, and phase one stretches from Saint Louis Street to Orleans Avenue. This space is designed to serve as an economic and cultural haven for residents along the Claiborne Corridor.

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ANNOUNCES NEW RESOURCES FOR HISPANIC ENTREPRENEURS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EL CENTRO, NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES

The City of New Orleans today announced new resources available for entrepreneurs through a partnership with El Centro, a New Orleans-based non-profit fostering the economic mobility of Latinos in South Louisiana by providing culturally competent business and financial coaching in Spanish. These resources include video and text tutorials on how to obtain occupational and sales tax licenses.

City of New Orleans Announces Selection of Recipients of ARPA Funding for Economic Mobility

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced the organizations selected, through a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA), for programs that promote economic mobility throughout the community.

The $5 million project, entitled Economic Mobility in Motion: Moving New Orleanians Forward, is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
