Today, Mayor LaToya Cantrell signed a five-year Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between the City of New Orleans and Save Our Soul Coalition (S.O.S.C.) to support the redevelopment process for Louis Amstrong Park and Municipal Auditorium. Additionally, Mayor Cantrell issued an Executive Order to establish a Municipal Auditorium and Armstrong Park Revitalization Advisory Committee. The nine-member committee comprised of community members will advise and provide counsel to the Mayor and City Council regarding the development of a Strategic Master Plan for Louis Armstrong Park and Municipal Auditorium.

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Michoud Assembly Facility Lionel Dutreix, New Orleans Aviation Board Chair Judge Michael Bagneris, as well as representatives from the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA), Greater New Orleans, Incorporated (GNO Inc.), New Orleans and Company and the Office of Congressman Troy Carter to unveil a new educational display in a prominent location at MSY highlighting NASA’s presence at the City’s Michoud Assembly Facility located in New Orleans East and overall highlighting the city’s diverse business and economic base.

The City of New Orleans today announced that it is now accepting applications for the Parklet Permit. The Parklet Permit builds upon the economic development opportunity created by the City of New Orleans’ nearly four-year Pilot Parklet Program that introduced parklets as an innovative means to safely attract customers to bars and restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, April 17, the City of New Orleans joined Ujamaa Economic Development Corporation, to celebrate the completion of phase one of the Claiborne Cultural Innovation District (CID), “Backatown Plaza.” The CDI is an area underneath the I-10 expressway along North Claiborne Avenue between Toulouse Street and Orleans Avenue, and phase one stretches from Saint Louis Street to Orleans Avenue. This space is designed to serve as an economic and cultural haven for residents along the Claiborne Corridor.

The City of New Orleans today announced new resources available for entrepreneurs through a partnership with El Centro, a New Orleans-based non-profit fostering the economic mobility of Latinos in South Louisiana by providing culturally competent business and financial coaching in Spanish. These resources include video and text tutorials on how to obtain occupational and sales tax licenses.
