Fleet Modernization
EMD is committed to building a smarter, more efficient fleet for the future. Through strategic planning and data-driven decision making, we evaluate vehicle performance, utilization, maintenance costs, and operational needs to guide fleet replacement and modernization efforts.
By introducing newer technologies, standardizing equipment where appropriate, and exploring sustainable vehicle options, EMD helps the City reduce operating costs, improve reliability, and support long-term environmental goals while maintaining the highest level of service to the public.
Technology & Innovation
Innovation drives the way EMD manages and maintains the City's fleet. Through industry-leading platforms such as Ron Turley Associates (RTA), Samsara, and WEX, EMD leverages real-time data to improve efficiency, accountability, and fleet performance.
RTA supports maintenance scheduling, asset management, inventory control, and work order tracking. Samsara provides GPS tracking, telematics, vehicle diagnostics, and utilization analytics, allowing for proactive maintenance and improved operational oversight. WEX supports fuel management, transaction monitoring, and reporting to ensure responsible stewardship of City resources.
The City uses Samsara to manage vehicles and assets across 41 departments, including EMS and NOFD, improving how we track and allocate resources to better serve the public.
By embracing technology and continuously exploring new solutions, EMD strengthens service delivery and enhances fleet readiness across all City departments.
Fuel Management
EMD manages the City's fuel operations to ensure vehicles and equipment have reliable access to fuel while maintaining accountability and efficiency. Through secure fueling systems and robust reporting tools, the division monitors fuel consumption, tracks usage trends, and supports responsible resource management.
Utilizing WEX fuel management technology, EMD enhances transaction security, improves reporting capabilities, and helps safeguard public funds while ensuring uninterrupted service to City departments.
