The City Park Improvement Association:

  • Appoints the general manager and the assistant general manager of City Park;
  • Establishes fees, rents, charges, admissions, or fares as otherwise authorized by law, except as otherwise provided in any contract for the operation, care, control, or management of the park or any of its facilities as otherwise authorized by law;
  • Makes an annual report to the legislature; and
  • Prepares and makes available a plan providing specific goals and objectives for the use of any state general funds, including measures of performance and a proposed comprehensive budget for the appropriated funding.



Between thirty-one to thirty-four members.

  • The Governor appoints one member;
  • The President of the Senate appoints one member;
  • The Speaker of the House appoints one member;
  • The Mayor appoints one member;
  • The City Council appoints two members;
  • The Jefferson Parish Council appoints one member;
  • The Friends of City Park appoint three members;
  • The Chamber/ N.O.& /River Region appoint one member;
  • The immediate past-President of the Association; and
  • The Board of Commissioners of the Association elect no less than twenty and no more than twenty-three at-large members.

Term Length

Members elected by the Board of Commissioners serve terms concurrent with appointing authority. All other members serve three year terms.
