Purpose

The Downtown Development District provides for the orderly planning, development, acquisition, construction and effectuation of the services, improvements and facilities within the District.

Composition

Eleven members of whom at least nine must have their principal place of business in, or own property in, the Downtown Development District.

  • The Mayor appoints nine members with the approval of the City Council. The Mayor will select five of these members from a list of eight nominees named by the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce; and
  • Two members are jointly appointed by the state senators and state representatives who represent the district. Both members must be residents of the district and at least one member must have their principal place of business in the district.
