The Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee advises the Mayor and the City Council regarding:

(1) the dissemination of information on the importance of the military to the economy and society of New Orleans and surrounding areas;

(2) the needs of the military individually and collectively in New Orleans and surrounding areas; and

(3) securing military bases in New Orleans and surrounding areas. 


The Mayor appoints a Chairman who serves at the Mayor’s pleasure.

  • The highest ranking commanding officer of each branch of the service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Army National Guard and Air National Guard) located in Orleans Parish or within the Greater New Orleans area designates a representative from their branch and/or their reserve component;
  • The Chairman appoints six to fifteen members who serve at the pleasure of the Chairman or the Mayor;
  • The State Chairman of the Louisiana Committee for Employers’ Support of the Guard and Reserve; and
  • The Chairman may invite the Presidents of Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes or their designees.

Term Length

Civilian members serve at the pleasure of the Chairman or the Mayor, but no longer than the term of a sitting Mayor.
