Flood Warning System

The City of New Orleans uses remote environmental monitoring systems to collect data on rainfall and flooding. The flood warning system sends real-time warnings to city officials when street flooding is detected. The data collected by this system is used to provide real-time warnings to public safety dispatch, RTA, and the public. Flood warnings are displayed at streetwise.nola.gov.

In the summer of 2024, the Hazard Mitigation Office partnered with HyFi Corp. to expand the flood warning system across the city. These sensors will be in place for a 12-month pilot, with support from United Way and Verizon.
