Blue Bike Expansion Program

More bikes, more stations, more of New Orleans

The NOHD Injury Prevention team is working with the City and Blue Krewe to expand Blue Bikes, New Orleans' bike-share program, into more neighborhoods across New Orleans. A larger, better-connected bike-share network means more residents can choose a safe, low-cost, low-stress way to get around — and fewer cars on the road means safer streets for everyone.

Blue Krewe currently has bikes throughout the French Quarter, Treme, Mid-City, Marigny, Central Business District, and Bywater neighborhoods, and are planning to expand into Broadmoor, Central City, the Upper Ninth Ward, and Hoffman’s Triangle neighborhoods.

As a community-based organization, Blue Krewe is always looking for feedback from all New Orleanians. If you have ideas about where in those neighborhoods you'd love to see a bike hub, potential challenges, or feedback on your experience riding, they want to hear from you. Blue Krewe is currently looking to expand into Central City, and invites residents to share feedback through the Central City Expansion Survey.

Blue Bikes membership options

Blue Bikes offers a few ways to ride, depending on how often you plan to use the system:

Pay-as-you-Go — $1 to unlock, $0.35 per minute. Best for occasional riders.
Blue Bikes Monthly Membership — $25/month. No unlock fee, includes 60 minutes of ride time per day, with any additional time priced at $0.15 per minute.
Blue Bikes for All Membership — $4/month for Louisiana residents eligible for SNAP and/or Medicaid. No unlock fee, includes 60 minutes of ride time per day, with any additional time priced at $0.15 per minute. This membership is subsidized by Pay-as-you-Go riders to help keep the system accessible to all New Orleanians.

How to ride

Download the Blue Bikes NOLA app and register (you'll need an ID). From there, scan the QR code on the bike you'd like to unlock and ride. When you're done, the app will walk you through how to lock the bike back up. The app also shows a map of the current service area, including hub and bike locations, and displays how much charge each bike has.

Riding safely

We strongly recommend wearing a helmet when riding Blue Bikes. Because sanitation and logistics make it impractical to offer helmets as part of the bikeshare itself, Blue Krewe encourages safe riding by hosting helmet giveaways several times a year.
